State of the Un-one: X-, Y-, and Z-Day(s) are when the Saints go marching in

So, as most people i know that need to know are aware: this State of the Un-one Address is going to be cut short when my apartment complex evicts us on Monday. After very suddenly getting laid off two weeks before the most very Merry X-Day I've never seen, I have been doing anything and everything i possibly can to attain some kind of gainful employment before my rent is over a month late and i end up having to move into that quaint blue garbage dumpster in the far back. Last week I just began aggressively low-balling any and all bids/proposals if they could be paid in full immediately. I'm pretty sure that I have a few of those coming back along with some other random work I have been lucky enough to receive, but now I'm not able to keep up with it all as well as I want since as of Monday I began a very promising 30hr/wk contract position (w/intent for full-time) with the talented guys over at I.T. by Design. Unfortunately, with all that being said, I still have not been able to get things done when I should have, I don't know if can or will be able to get any of those things done in time , and then, even if I do or I can get anything done, there's no way any client will actually pay me before or on time so that I can get it in the bank in enough time to ensure I still have an apartment to stay in when I get back.

BRDA [ Baton Rouge Design Alliance ]

Press Release

This past Wednesday I attended the very first meeting held by the Baton Rouge Design Alliance. I was almost obviously and outwardly shocked at the number of local young graphic and web designers that mobbed the dimly lit back floor area of Chelsea’s Café looking for anyone that resembled a peer or made enough eye contact to qualify as a signal that they had found the right place. The collective amount of talent represented in the room could be dangerous if used for that end… I have a strong desire to help guide the ones who would follow, like I'm some kind of design messiah – ego aside, we all know I'm something short of mediocre; but I have always been able to see better what others need to do before I even know for myself and I can usually express it so it's understood and not just heard (anybody need a creative director?).

Young Graphic Designers Unite:
Form Baton Rouge Design Alliance

Baton Rouge, LA―– The Baton Rouge Design Alliance held its inaugural meeting Wednesday, Aug. 12. The group was formed to allow young Baton Rouge area designers to discuss how they can affect the quality of design in the Baton Rouge area now and in the future and how to help businesses discover how they can use design to impact their bottom line.

“In 5 to 10 years, we will be the creative directors or owners of the Baton Rouge area advertising and design outlets,” said Casey Muller, co-founder of the Alliance. “Hopefully this organization will help us be more effective in our roles as designers, leaders and business people.

Membership is open to professional designers of all disciplines from ages 21 (at least a junior in a college-level design program if not currently a professional) through 35. No dues are charged. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at Chelsea’s Café at 6:30 p.m., but arrive 30 minutes early to network with fellow designers.

“The main goal of the Baton Rouge Design Alliance is to promote a sense of community among the designers of our city. Baton Rouge has the capacity to become a city with great design on every corner and we’re here to make a connection with other designers and artists to give us all of the outlets to succeed,” said BRDA co-founder, Blake Cason.

Life in the So-Called Squarespace

Lately, I've been playing with a few CMS apps trying to find one that will work well with our existing and future client-base. Squarespace is by-far the most complete and user-friendly service I've come across trumping even LightCMS in everything but cost. So convincing even, that I have decided to use it as my primary hosting for my own personal/professional site (as seen here). As for now, the design is just a simple format based on a pre-designed template that in given time will be reworked into something of my own crafting.
